Presentation: Mastering Remote User Research

The original presentation was updated and presented on October 17, 2024 at ProductCamp Chicago. The updates covered the advantages of remote research we found during the pandemic and how they apply now that we are back in person.

Note: There was a section on AI and UX, but it has been removed here due to proprietary information.

Presentation: Conducting Research Remotely

Basic User Research steps

COVID-19 changed the way we operated. We worked from home, we couldn’t travel, and the interest in tech boomed. Doing user research in person wasn’t an available option for product development during this time. What tools and technique best translated in a virtual/remote world?

Tips for making the shift to digital

MATTER, a healthcare startup incubator in Chicago, approached me looking for virtual educational content for their members. I co-wrote Conducting Research Remotely with Mark Micheli to teach the importance of user research in product development and provide guidance on the best practices for virtual research. We presented this twice and then recordeded it as an on-demand course that MATTER members can access.
